Nomination Process

The Awards season runs from September 1 through August 31 annually.

Any Eligible productions are automatically nominated and posted on the website prior to the award season’s start. At that time, if an eligible production has not yet been listed on the website, please notify the Organizing Committee at least 45 days prior to the performance.

The Nominations Chair will bring any questionable eligibility issues to the Organizing Committee. Should a production be deemed ineligible, no elements of that production will be eligible for nomination. Should a production be deemed ineligible, the producing organization will receive notice to that effect.

Productions deemed ineligible may submit a written letter to the Organizing Committee requesting that the production be reconsidered under special circumstances. The request should outline the reasons the production should be considered eligible. Such reasons could include factors such as potential audience size, number of performances, the reputation of the producing organization within the community, production history and commitment to employing professional artists. Upon receiving such a request, the Organizing Committee will consider it during its next regular meeting and after discussion, a vote will be taken. Simple majority will rule. The decision of the Organizing Committee will be final.

At this time, we will not consider Opera or Dance productions. However, as the capacity of the awards committee grows, we will consider adding these disciplines to our awards categories. We welcome feedback from the Opera and Dance communities on their interest in being involved in the Winnipeg Theatre Awards.
